Six mosaic roundels, Morndyke Shepherd’s Huts, Thirsk
My brief was to create six individual decorative roundels within an outdoor setting at Morndyke Shepherd’s Huts. My client specified the animals to be depicted and left the designs to me. They were an absolute joy to work on! I used a mix of ceramic and glass tesserae, as well as some mirror glass sections for the dragonfly wings. Bits of broken pottery came in very useful for the rugged feel of the toad skin. The panels were made in the indirect method whereby they were constructed up-side-down, then transferred and adhered to a supportive paving-stone base, and finally grouted on the top surface. I presented my client with a digital design of all the six roundels before work began, as can be seen below, along with an arial view of the finished roundels in-situ, installed by the client.
